Ever since people developed a taste for garden ornaments, the idea of combining visually pleasant fountains with the soothing ripple of flowing water has appealed to many and so it remains today. Water fountains are a great addition to any garden and have a calming and refreshing effect on one’s mental tonus.
Water fountains can come as self-standing units or can be fitted on walls, such as antique French and Italian designs. Table-top water fountains are also quite shared. They come in a wide variation of materials, among the most prominent being iron, cast stone, heavy duty fibreglass with various finishes, ceramic, marble, copper and so forth – even wood, although the latter is by far more unusual. Many models emulate the appearance of antique water fountains, as their unique charm and finesse will never be out of fashion. Some materials are treated with certain finishes precisely to create an antique stone effect.
Ultra-modern water fountain designs come in innovative shapes and unlike classic designs, are based on simplicity rather than intricate motifs. As a widespread feature, many garden water fountains (self-standing designs) come with an arrangement of river stones, in order to reproduce their glistening in the sun as well as the peaceful sounds encountered near streams or river banks. Since a water fountain often tends to be the central attraction in a garden, it is frequently surrounded by flower beds as well, carefully displayed in meticulously designed arrangements. Table top water fountains are similar in materials and structure yet differ in size, being much smaller.
