In times when people are encouraged to grow their own vegetables, many face the quandary of not having enough space or not even owning a garden. For indoor and outdoor use as well as for equipping any greenhouse, these raised beds are extremely practical and come in a great variety, so that you can make an informed selection according to your specific needs.
Today, raised beds are made from various materials with adequate properties, such as woven polyethylene, wood (pressure treated timber) or recycled UPVC boards. In terms of structure, when made of textiles, their frames are commonly made of steel, for optimal resilience and they always come with drainage holes just above their base. Sometimes, depending on the manufacturers, those raised beds which require assembling (for instance the ones made from UPVC boards) allow more flexibility as the number of boards, corner links and dowels sold in a pack can be grouped into several small raised beds or into larger ones. If you want further growing space, a mini bed extension kit will meet that need as it can significantly increase (double) the volume of your raised bed.
Raised beds are specifically designed to provide good insulation and create excellent conditions for your plants to develop. They are also created with cleaning expediency in mind, as they are very easy to clean and do not allow the content stored inside them to pass through the sides or base, whilst at the same time their drainage system works very well. They are perfect for limited spaces such as balconies.
